Though misaligned teeth and overbites might seem like problems that pertain strictly to cosmetic dentistry, these issues actually make it much harder to keep your teeth clean. According to research by the American Association of Orthodontists, failing to seek orthodontic care increases your risk of gum disease, tooth decay, TMJ, and a number of other dental health concerns. In addition, an uneven or crooked bite can cause serious pain and discomfort, affecting your quality of life.

Contact UsHave you ever wondered what sets an orthodontist apart from a regular dentist? It’s all in the training! These specialized professionals focus on the correction of dental and facial irregularities, such as misaligned teeth and jaws. The journey of orthodontic care specialists begins with dental school, where they acquire a solid foundation in general dentistry. This comprehensive training equips them with the knowledge and skills necessary to understand the overall oral health of each patient.
Learn More >However, the pursuit of orthodontics doesn’t end with dental school. Orthodontists commit to further education and additional training that not all dentists receive, specifically involving the intricacies of orthodontic treatment. This training delves deep into the science and art of straightening teeth, fixing bad bites, and enhancing facial aesthetics. All in all, orthodontics encompasses a deep understanding of appliances, technologies, and the latest advancements in dentistry.
At Hamilton Dental Associates, our expert orthodontists are equipped with the latest dental tools and technologies available, and have the knowledge to fix a wide range of alignment concerns. After performing a series of X-rays and dental health assessments, we develop a custom plan for each patient. We utilize a variety of fixed and removable dental appliances to help align patients’ teeth and correct bite issues that affect jaw positioning. Some of our advanced orthodontic treatment methods can even address several problems at once!
While once considered a solution for only crooked teeth, braces for both upper and lower teeth are becoming more and more advanced as the years go by. Thanks to recent innovations, our orthodontists can install braces to address a broad range of teeth alignment concerns, spacing problems, and other dental issues. From helping create extra space in your mouth to providing relief for pain caused by a misaligned jaw, braces are an effective treatment for adults, teenagers, and preteens alike.
While not everyone will need braces, the majority of people aren’t born with a perfect mouth. This is because even if your baby teeth didn’t have any problems, sometimes adult teeth can end up developing issues as they grow in. If you want that perfect smile, speak with our dentistry team about braces or similar orthodontic treatments! We can help you address:
● Overbite ● Crossbite ● Spacing Issues ● Crowding | ● Underbite ● Open Bite ● Mismatched Midline ● Diastema |
When treating these problems, you can choose between traditional braces or removable clear aligners (also called aligner trays). You’re likely already familiar with traditional metal braces, which most children and teens have worn for several decades. However, as dental technology continues to improve, these orthodontic appliances have become significantly lighter, easier to maintain, and more effective.
Modern metal braces are made by fixing metal or ceramic brackets to individual teeth, then connecting them with wires or rubber bands. On the other hand, clear aligners (also called clear braces) adjust your upper or lower teeth with a series of transparent, custom-made plastic trays that slide on and off of the teeth like a glove. You may need braces on your upper teeth, lower teeth, or both — an orthodontist will help you find out what the best plan may be for your specific situation.
Both clear braces and metal braces work slowly over time, straightening your teeth gradually to avoid excess discomfort or tissue trauma. In order to make sure you’re on the right track, our orthodontists will check the progress of your teeth and bite with regular X-rays and frequent exams. We’ll also provide you with important care tips for your braces, including advice on how to maintain better oral health while undergoing orthodontic treatment. Before you know it, you’ll have a straight smile without bite issues, crowded teeth, or other issues!
Are you interested in wearing braces or helping your child receive orthodontic treatment? Hamilton Dental Associates is just one call away. Don’t hesitate to schedule an appointment to see an orthodontist today!
After the orthodontic treatment process is complete, your metal braces or clear aligners are off, and you’ve achieved the straight teeth of your dreams, our orthodontists may recommend retainers to ensure that your teeth maintain their proper alignment. Much like with braces, you have several options to choose from when it comes to your retainer. You can opt for a traditional removable or fixed wire retainer, or choose one of our discreet, removable transparent retainers. Either way, using these common appliances is one of the best ways to get the most out of the orthodontic treatment process.
Some other orthodontic treatments besides braces may require the use of a retainer as well. If a patient needs palate expanders to expand the upper jaw area, we may also recommend using a retainer after treatment is finished. A friendly orthodontist will let you know what may be best for your specific situation.
